CRU recently held a leadership masterclass about how to harness people-power in efforts towards disability rights and inclusion.Presenter Anita Tang from Australian Progress shared strategies from successful movements for change, and CRU CEO Lisa Bridle shared a story from her life outside work of her involvement in local community-led action in support of refugees.People from a variety of roles came together to discuss their concerns about the significant challenges the disability rights movement is facing, from the NDIS reforms, to the expansion of special schools and the lack of meaningful action in response to the Disability Royal Commission’s recommendations. It was a day of reclaiming collective power, strengthening connections, and learning about effective frameworks and tools. Inclusion - Our Stories is our new video series where people with disability share how they are living their best lives in regional Queensland. In Violet’s video she shares her experiences as a regular volunteer with Yeppoon parkrun. She has participated in parkrun and works alongside other volunteers setting up and packing down, but her favourite part of the role is cheering on the runners and offering them support.
