Webinar – Communication with School: Building a Foundation for Partnerships

Webinar 2:  Communication with School – Building a Foundation for Partnerships

Successful partnerships between the student, family and the school are critical for successful inclusion, and the best educational and social outcomes for students with disability.  Currently Queensland students, families and teachers are facing new challenges with learning from home, but effective collaboration remains as important as ever, perhaps more so with less opportunity for informal and face-to-face interaction.

This webinar will discuss:

  • Building blocks for effective partnerships – in both “ordinary” and “extraordinary” times
  • What can parents expect: the DoE Parent and Community Engagement framework
  • Common barriers to partnership – and how to avoid them!
  • Achieving common understandings through effective listening and assertive communication
  • Effective parent advocacy – with specific tips for email and phone advocacy

This webinar will help families maintain a focus on their vision and goals for their son or daughter, no matter what the current educational context.

There will be a focus on families identifying what a quality education and good inclusion looks like for them, and how they can communicate their knowledge of their child and their goals to achieve the best outcomes for their child.

Topics Covered will include:

  • Building a vision for inclusion
  • Including all learners in the same curriculum
  • Fostering classroom and playground relationships to build belonging
  • Whole class inclusive strategies and planning individualised supports
  • Understanding “behaviour”
  • Home-school partnerships and problem-solving

About the Presenter:
Dr Bob Jackson is the Managing Director of Include (WA) and has been working in the field of human services and education since the 1970s.Bob has had a wide experience as a Direct Care worker, Psychologist, Manager of Disability Services, Researcher, Director of a Research Centre on Disability, Associate Professor of Education and consultant to government, private and public education systems, agencies and families.
