The program “From Presence to Contribution” is designed to support neurodivergent young people and young people with disability to build meaningful connections within their communities and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. 1. Who can participate?
Neurodivergent young people and young people with disability aged between 17 and 25. If you have paid support, your support worker will also be able to participate in training.
2. What is the purpose of this program?
The program aims to help neurodivergent young people and young people with disability build community connections and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. You will be supported to develop plans and to participate and contribute to your community in ways that matter to you.
3. What will I do in the program?
Participants will be supported to develop plans to increase community connection like:
- Find places in community where you can connect with people with shared interests
- Become a more active participant in your community
- Make contributions in the places that matter to you
4. When will the program start?
The program will start in September 2026 and will run for 12 months.
How much time do I need to participate in the program?
You will be invited to take part in 4 workshops (one every three months) and individual mentoring sessions (in person, online or by phone).
5. Do I have to attend in person?
Some workshops will be held in person at our South Brisbane Office. There will be options to participate in other activities, like one-on-one mentoring sessions either online or over the phone.
6. What leadership opportunities can I expect in the program?
You will have a chance to:
- meet with 2-3 support workers to flesh out your plans
- present at training sessions and a forum
- share your experiences in videos
- co-design fact sheets
7. Do I have to participate in leadership opportunities?
You don’t have to get involved in leadership opportunities if you don’t want to. We’ll encourage you to participate, but it’s entirely up to you to decide how and if you want to take part in those activities.
8. I have a paid support worker. How can they apply?
If you have a paid support worker and want them to join the program, just tell us when you apply. We’ll have information for support workers ready soon.
