Professor Bruce Bonyhady a was one of the key architects of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the inaugural chair of the NDIA Board and was Co-Chair of the NDIS Review in 2022-23.
Recorded in Brisbane in March at Building Capacity for Lifelong Inclusion, Prof. Bonyhady’s plenary presentation Reflecting on Change: Twenty years
investment in the NDIS gave his unique perspective on how the scheme came to be, and where he believes it is heading.
The introduction of the NDIS has been a transformative social change in Australia - but not without its challenges. Some of the current changes have led many to feel anxious, particularly when an establishing principle was that the NDIS would provide greater certainty of supports for people with disability and their families. In this presentation, Bruce encourages people, families and the broader disability sector to remain clear on the purpose and promise of scheme and to continue to work together for the long haul, to ensure the NDIS is the best it can be.
