On Tuesday, CRU heard the sad news that our friend, long term member and respected guest presenter June Arthy had passed away after a short illness. June had an amazing story to tell and she shared it with skill, lots of humour and great generosity. Born with disability, in the following 87 years, she had experienced working in a convent laundry from when she was a teenager; moving to a Hostel when the laundry closed and eventually with the help of advocates and friends establishing a home of her own. She presented her story for CRU on many occasions in Brisbane, Cairns, and Toowoomba and was also invited interstate. In 2015 she presented as part of a Queensland panel at a conference in Vancouver, Canada. It was her profile as a speaker that helped her extended family find her and reconnect after many decades. For over 35 years, CRU has worked to identify, resource and nurture the development of grassroots leadership of people with disability, their families and allies in Qld, to build a movement for change.
