Building homes for all Queenslanders - now and for the futureEveryone needs a place to call home that meets their needs.52 organisations representing people with disability, older people, families/carers and the disability, housing and community sectors have joined together to show their support for Queensland’s continued implementation of the Livable Housing Design Standard (LHDS) under the National Construction Code. This week, CRU's CEO Lisa Bridle was excited to join interstate collegues at the Summer Foundation's Forum "What will it take? Growing Individualised Living Arrangements in Australia". In the opening panel, Lisa drew on her son Sean's experience to provide a family perspective on the benefits and ingredients of successful shared living in a home of one's own. The roundtable discussions addressed key barriers to growing the number of people able to access a typical home in community, and the policy, service transformation and capacity building that would deliver high quality housing and supports. As a member of NACBO, the National Alliance of Capacity Building Organisations, CRU is grateful for these opportunities to drive a vision of better lives for people with disability and contribute our knowledge and experience on what will make that a reality. We offer our appreciation to the Summer Foundation for their leadership and acknowledge the collaboration of many others for that same future.Picture: Jessica Craven, Communications Manager at Summer Foundation, Sarah Forbes CEO Milparinka Disability Services and Lisa Bridle. ...
