CRU was pleased to recently host a peer support training day for family members of teenagers with disability around the topic of employment.This event brought parents together to share experiences, learn new skills, and build their confidence in supporting their young people to find meaningful, paid work in the community. Guest Speakers Catrin Culla and Freya Touissant shared how they have each found employment they enjoy in their local communities since leaving school. Freya brought her business with her thinkingofyougift.com/ and set up a stall so we could get in some Christmas shopping. Catrin enjoys a side business Catrin's Christmas Decorations outside working two jobs, and presented CRU with a beautiful Christmas Wreath.Michelle Doyle and Donna Touissant generously shared what they’ve learnt through their experience of supporting their daughters into meaningful employment. Thankyou too to Nellie Godwin-Welch for sharing different strategies she has used as a support worker to assist young people with disability into a job they love.
