Here is an update on some of the happenings at CRU in this new financial year.
CRU has recently signed a new funding agreement with the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services for another three years to continue our core general work across the state. Our planning has been a little delayed for this half of the year but here is the latest date claimer with an overview of the events planned so far. Flyers with more details on how to register will follow and will be on the events section of our website.
We have also been re-engaged by the Department of Communities to offer Participant Readiness activities in the Brisbane, Central Queensland and South West Queensland regions, though this work has changed significantly. Six months before the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) gets started in each area of Queensland the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will take over offering workshops and information sessions for people with disabilities and their families. That means we will stop offering our Participant Readiness workshops in those areas as the NDIS gets closer. You will see changes in our workshops and we are currently negotiating all of those details with the Department. We have some workshops planned for the western suburbs of Brisbane later this month but hope to be able to release a more comprehensive plan before too long.
We hope you have had the chance to look at our new website Bringing the Good Life to Life – http://thegoodlife.cru.org.au – we are working on more pages to add to it now and hope to launch pages 5 and 6 very soon. Page 5 explores funded services and support in the pursuit of the Good Life and Page 6 explores the blocks and barriers that often confront people with disability. In these pages we aim to both discuss the issues and also share some strategies that people have found to be useful.
Thank you to everyone who responded to our short online questionnaire recently to feed into the Disability Leadership Project review. We really appreciated your input. The review was held last week and has given us a lot to think about. The reviewers have made some recommendations for change and we will be meeting with the Advisory group next week to look at the feedback we have received and plan the next steps for this project. We will be back in touch with you as soon as we can with news of how you can access this opportunity.
The Management Committee have been considering for some time the pros and cons of transferring CRU from an Incorporated Association to a Company Limited by Guarantee. A proposal to make this transition will be put to members at the Annual General Meeting this year. The Management Committee believes it would be helpful to have the flexibility of the new structure at this time of change and uncertainty. The AGM date has not yet been set but we will forward further information and invitations as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continuing support of CRU.
