CRU is proud to announce some of our upcoming events for 2015.
To the right you can download the 2015 Date Claimer. On one side (the green side) you will see a list of workshops across all regions of the state. The majority of these workshops are open to people with disabilities, family members and workers from the government and non-government sectors.
You will see some new workshops there and we are offering some that have been well received before, in different regions. As is usual for CRU, each of these workshops will have a registration fee.
We expect to add more events to the calendar during the year and being on our mailing list is the best way to stay up to date about them. You can sign up to mailing list here.
Taking Charge of Change: Participant Readiness for the NDIS
CRU will be offering Taking Charge of Change workshops in Brisbane, South West Queensland and Central Queensland. These events are part of the Participant Readiness activities funded by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services to help people with disability and their families to prepare for the start of the NDIS in July 2016.
Families who live in the North Coast, North Queensland and Far North Queensland can check the Mamre website for Participant Readiness events in these areas.
If you live in South East Queensland (Logan, Redlands and the Gold Coast) you may be interested in events being offered by YFS and these are outlined in their website.
If you have a desire to see your family member and indeed all people with disability enjoy the same opportunities as everyone else, and want to contribute in some small way to making this happen, then these events will be of interest to you.
By participating in these events, families will gain knowledge, skills and networks. These events are for mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters and other extended family members and are for families at all ages and stages.
We particularly draw your attention to the 3 two day events being offered in 2015:
- A two day workshop Facing the Crowd: building frameworks, skills and confidence to lead positive change being held on Fri 27/ Sat 28 March in Brisbane
- Our live-in Family Leadership Weekend Retreat (for all family members, including children/adults with disability and brothers and sisters) to be held at Boonah on Fri 24-Sun 26 July
- A two day workshop – Towards a Better Life: Exploring Valued Roles for your Family Member on Mon 31 August/ Tues 1 September
A limited number of travel bursaries will be available for regional families to assist with travel costs and accommodation. This regional assistance has been made available through the Disability Leadership Project which is funded by a private donation.
