Optimal Individual Service Design – OISD 2017 (week 2)
May 8, 2017 @ 9:00 am - May 12, 2017 @ 1:00 pm
DEEP QUALITY THROUGH OPTIMAL INDIVIDUAL SERVICE DESIGN (OISD)
Week 1: April 3rd-7th & Week 2: May 8th -12th
+ Pre-course Conversation Evening Monday March 27th
Brisbane – Queensland
Community Resource Unit is hosting this comprehensive training program to support the development of quality in the design and delivery of individualised, person centred services to people with disabilities and their families in Queensland.
The program consists of two full weeks of training. Attendance at the two weeks is essential for registration in this event.
This course is a challenging “hands on” event that combines theory sessions with practicum work in small groups. Each group develops a proposal, from scratch, for a person with disability, who has volunteered to assist us.
Each participant learns from developing their proposal; having it critiqued; and from observing the development of the proposals by other groups.
Course Leader – Michael J. Kendrick PhD, Kendrick Consulting International, Massachusetts
Well known in Australia and internationally for his work on service quality, leadership, innovation, service user empowerment and safeguards, Michael had been involved with individualised service design for over 30 years. He has taught extensively in designing innovative services, particularly for people considered “difficult to serve”.
Co-Presenters – Margaret Rodgers & Lorna Sullivan
Michael will be assisted in the delivery of the course by Margaret Rodgers, CEO of Community Resource Unit and Lorna Sullivan, Director of Disability Services at Uniting Care Community and founding Chief Executive of Imagine Better NZ.
Margaret and Lorna each have over 30 years’ experience in working with people who live with disabilities. They all bring a deep understanding of and commitment to working with people, one at a time, to ensure they have meaningful lives in their community.
Between them, they have worked in the government and non-government sectors and in large and small agencies and bring an appreciation of the particular challenges to be overcome to make this possible in each setting.
Margaret and Lorna have experience as co-presenters in this course in other national and international locations.
Who should attend?
Due to the length and intensity of this course, it is recommended that all participants actively choose to attend. It is preferable that participants have already demonstrated the ability to be creative, innovative and rigorous about individualised service quality.
This would include: Service providers and experienced professionals in disability, mental health and aged care services, people who live with disability and their family members.
While it is not a prerequisite, we do recommend that participants have an understanding of Social Role Valorisation (SRV) theory before attending.
This training would also be best targeted to people who have:
- Strong connections with people who live with disability
- Proven track record in independent thinking and action
- A vision of individualisation, social inclusion and ethical partnership
- People who don’t just want ‘more of the same’
- Interest and ability in designing service solutions from scratch
