About the topic:

Creating a typical lifestyle – one that looks valued but also “ordinary” – actually takes lots of conscious thinking and strategising.

This evening session explores what we mean by ‘culturally typical’ and why a typical life delivers so many benefits in terms of acceptance, relationships and opportunities for learning.

We will explore examples of what can sway us from putting our faith and efforts into pursuing typical valued roles.  With an attitude of keeping expectations high, this session offers thinking tools for fine-tuning efforts to help a family member enjoy a rich, ordinary life.

About the session:

This evening discussion draws on the theory of Social Role Valorisation (SRV).  There will be input from Jane and opportunity for reflection and discussion.

The session is for families with some prior SRV knowledge, most likely from having attended a previous SRV event hosted by CRU or by Values in Action.  If you wish to attend but have not already attended an SRV workshop or evening discussion, please contact Lisa at CRU to discuss.

About the Presenter:

Jane Sherwin is an Accredited Teacher of SRV, having taught, studied and applied SRV over more than two decades.  She is a member of the Australian and New Zealand SRV group.

Jane has been involved in the lives of people with disability since the late 70s, as an occupational therapist, manager, lecturer and change manager.  She is a highly experienced teacher, facilitator, and author.
